In a desert exercise a tank travels x km on a bearing from a base O then y km on a bearing of 140 to a bunker B. Calculate the magnitude of the displacement vector OB when:

a, x=7 , y =6

I've worked out the magnitude:

9.22km

However I don't know how to find the direction of the displacement due to the bearing...

I am confused with the whole bearing thing, I don't know what they mean by it - would someone mind drawing this visually.

Thanks!

The bearing is the angle going clockwise the vector makes with the vector j that is parallel to the direction of the y axis. Eg: Bearing of 90 degrees is parallel to the positive x axis.

Could you please draw the above , so I can see visually more clearly what you mean....Draw the question

Thanks
