gyg - beating laziness as a y12 student

Hey TSR, I'm one of the many procrastinators here and it's a little late but I'm hoping that this thread will motivate me to take accountability and work more harder. Most of my revision sessions end up with me groggily watching youtube or checking insta in bed within 10 minutes... and I don't think that's really helped my current grades :s-smilie:

About me (as of 13/04/2024):
Year: 12
A-Level subjects: Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, Business
Future degree: Computer Science
Interests: technology, maths, language learning

Goals to achieve by June 2024:
-> Achieve an A in my AS Further Maths exam (13th/17th May)
-> Achieve A/A* results in mock exams (6th May onwards, dates TBC)
-> Catch up with all past-due work (ideally before mock season)
-> Develop a sustainable revision plan for the remainder of y12, the summer and y13.
-> Abandon wasteful activities (scrolling, social media, etc) and boost productivity
-> Create a sustainable plan to learn Arabic during the holidays
-> Win a studentbeans winsday competition (it's rigged anyways)
-> Get into reading as a hobby - non fiction of course.

Here are some threads I want to keep tabs on. Expect frequent updates.

Ayyy I have been mentioned 😂 Thanks for the shoutout, and honestly with graphics it depends how much effort I’m willing to put in on a day, normally I just copy and paste the format in 😆

I’m glad to see more year 12 students joining in! And also I’m worried for FM my exams are also 13th 17th but also 24th cause I do FM Mech as well 😭

I also really need to get rid of some activities like scrolling, it’s too addicting 😔

@emm4nuella could you tag the fam?

Lmao no worries and thanks for inspiring me to make a thread. It's not as elegant as one of the many unrealistic studytube channels I'll admit. But it seems like a good way to push myself to be honest and do more work.

Same, we've got only like 4 weeks? Time flies, especially if, like me, you're hovering around a C/D for FM. I'm doing CP1/D1/FM1, so mine will only be monday and friday.

Finish outstanding y1p hw (ch14, 10)

Finish y2m ch4/5

Revise biz unit 1

I don’t actually know what grade I am for FM currently, we’ve had no tests or graded homework all year! We had one mock in December where I just about got an A but we had a very very specific topic revision list for it so it didn’t feel like an actual mock. I’m just praying we’ll be ok!

And good luck with todays tasks

Oh wow thanks for the shout out!! I don't know how much wisdom I can provide but I appreciate it 😄 good luck with the FM - are you doing maths and FM parallel then?

(Also fun fact about me I actually did about half a term of OCR CS (five A Levels was a bad idea lol) - I wanted to do it as a degree!! So I'm kinda curious to find out about what else you learn about in it!)

Heyy welcome!! I'm also in year 12 and studying similar subjects to you: maths, further maths, computer science and economics 😄

Thanks for all the welcomes, you're all wonderful 🤗

Yesterday I managed to get some of core pure done, but it wasn't much.
Considering I have my first further maths and maths lessons tomorrow, I've got a lot to get done.

15/04/2024 - 9:00pm onwards (had to take a nap after school, sorry!)

Finish off y1p/y2m work + online quizzes set (mechanics test friday)

Review the basics of Y2Pch1 (have a prep test tomorrow)

Refresh myself on further mech ch5 (will be continued from last term tomorrow)

Make more progress on CP1 (test on Wednesday)

Hey again blog, been pretty inactive (I'm sure you can guess why, read my comment history 😉 )

Today's friday. Recently got back my cp1 assessment... and yep, it wasn't good at all. 25%
That didn't stop my teacher from showing optimism in his usual disappointment - and to be frank, I'm not sure how I'd hold that much patience in me. So kudos to him.

The weekend's coming up and naturally that means tons of more work. It'll be a big push but it's a necessary evil at this point, considering I have like just over 3 weeks until my AS exams... which is just scary thinking about.

D1 looks all pretty good to me, or well, decent-ish. I think I might do a bit of revision for another module tonight, like FM1 as it's bundled in as paper 2. And I haven't touched it that much. I'll do 90 minutes at most. And on the weekend I'll look at a past paper for both as I've got an assessment on Wednesday for them.

Which does remind me: I've always been put off past papers. It's either "I've not revised enough" or "I'm scared of what result I'll get". They sound ridiculous to probably everyone else, and to be frank... it's dumb to be afraid of that. It's better to test yourself now and know what you'd get with your current knowledge now than on the day of the test. At least you have time to make corrections and fix weak points.

And I've still got premocks to revise for beginning next week. Because you can never have enough baseline assessments for maths!

And that's not forgetting the mocks for business and cs in 2 weeks... but I also hope to get round to doing them this weekend... somehow. The good thing about cs is that I enjoy that stuff and this paper's on algorithms. But for business, I'm pretty much in the dark - our textbook's the massive aqa hodder one (you know, the one with the questions and ZERO answers, wishy-washy definitions, pointless long commentaries on jack all). So if anyone's got some business advice, especially on exam technique, I'd appreciate it.

---

But that's my ramble for the week. People have it worse off than me... right?

Friday night, 19/04/2024

Revise FM1 for 90 minutes - pmt posters, moodle, unfinished handouts, cgp textbook (got nuthin on edexcel 😤)

I'll probably write the rest of my weekend plan tomorrow morning.
