Dentistry BDS dental surgery requires you generally to have 7-9 in Maths and Science subjects and a minimum of a 5 / 6 in English language. It is also AAA including two from Biology Chemistry Physics and Maths (some dental schools you must have biology, others you must have chemistry). From the grades and subjects you have neither GCSE nor A-level you would have the grades for Dental Surgery. Regarding Dental hygiene or dental hygiene and therapy, with those subjects (not the D in chemistry but C biology and B sociology) you should be able to meet the requirements if you apply strategically. The diploma hygiene course at Cardiff Uni, Bangor uni and Portsmouth uni are accessible with the grades you have. If you are wanting to do a degree in dental therapy as well as hygiene the entry requirements are A-levels where one must be biology at grades AAA-BBB depending on the university. Plymouth uni offer a foundation year to progress to dental therapy and hygiene, which you could look into if you don’t meet entry requirements off the bat. I would definitely get some experience in a dental practice or even complete a level 3 dental nursing qualification/apprenticeship before you apply to dental hygiene or dental therapy. I would recommend volunteering (can be anything not just dental) and making sure you are aware of the attributes that are needed to be a dental professional (GDC scope, NHS core values). Best of luck! Applications are nerve wracking and dental school is not easy to get into, but there is always a way if it is the career for you!
Sorry dental therapy is AAB-BBB at unis. It’s just AAA for dental surgery.

Hey, sorry to be a bother but how do i search for the diploma hygiene course at cardiff / bangor / portsmouth? I currently only have 1 offer (4/5 rejections) from bolton for dental technology - B840, was thinking of rejecting it and having a look at ucas extra but i’m not sure what courses are available so i don’t want to get rid of my only offer when i don’t know if i’ll find another course. is there any way i can check if those courses (diploma hygiene) are available on ucas extra? any link would be much appreciated! thanks!

I am new in the UK and have been living in the UK for 1 year since the end of year 10. I started learing GCSE’s in year 11. As i got my results i have got 7-7 in combined science, 7 in maths, 4 in Design in technology, 2 in English literature, 4 in english language (only 1 mark away from a grade 5), 3 in geography, and 2 in Religious studies. Now i had missed most of the topics that were in the content of GCSE so i had to catch up all by myself only in 7-8 months time during school time. As i did i got these results. I applied for sixth form and college A level BIOLOGY,CHEMISTRY, and MATHS. In sixth form i got a place at DOUBLE APPLIED SCIENCE and A LEVEL MATHS, which j wasnt happy with because i only got rejected over 1 mark in english language which led to a grade 5 in English language. Now its been 2-3 weeks i have applied for a remark which still i am waiting. On the other hand i had also applied at college for the same 3 A levels bio, chem, and maths but they told me if i get the remark and get a grade 5 in english language then i will be guaranteed the place in college for the three A levels. Btw college have offered me triple applied science but until now i have been attending my sixth form doing Btec double applied science and a level maths and still waiting for the remark.
So my question is that what can i be with Double applied science and A level maths?? Because i was planning to be a Dentist with the 3 A levels. So can i be a Pharmacist, optometrist, or biomedical science etc…?

DO NOT GIVE UP!!! You clearly want to do dentistry and i don't think that your GCSE are too low to apply. Please put in the hardwork now! Study at least an hour per day and you will be glad on results day when its all over. If you at least get an AAA i think you can be accepted! Praying for you and good luck with your A levels
