Manchester or York for Uni?

Im between manchetser and york, can you guys help me decide! Im coming from london, and so the smaller city of york appeals to me, but is the nightlife as good there, and also is the accomodation good? I know manchesters accom is pretty bad, but its campus is nice. Also, im studying philosophy, and york is quite good for philosophy.
Any points and suggestion appreciated! Thank you

Hi! I'm from Manchester but go to York for uni. Honestly, I would base it on what you want socially out of uni. I know a lot of people from and around London who like York due to its small town feel. The collegiate system is also a strong appeal of York as having college events in Freshers week is a good way of making friends and makes college sport very intense. However, for me once I'd been here for a few weeks the novelty of York really wore off as there isn't really a lot of nightlife in comparison to Manchester. Due to Manchester's size, there is a lot more to do in terms of clubbing and bars that York really lacks. York's accommodation, particularly Campus East, is miles better than Manchester's. It's only about a 25-30 minute walk from Campus West to town and there are regular buses. On the other hand, a lot of Manchester's accommodation is in Fallowfield, out of the main city. The buses are always packed and I imagine you'd spend a lot more on Ubers compared to York due how big the city is. So I'd base the decision on if you know you wouldn't get bored by a more small town kind of vibe or are wanting a uni experience more based on nightlife.

Hi there,

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about Philosophy at York! I work closely with the Department, so fire away! The Department is really close-knit and friendly, and the student societies (Phil Soc; SocraTeas) are great ways to interact with other students. I'd also recommend you check out our accommodation pages or contact the team if you have any questions there.

Kind regards, J

Neither. For the grade range, consider Birmingham.
York looks like a science park more than a university and it feels weird when it's quiet.
