Spring: Day trips from Kingston

Spending the spring break in Kingston but unsure on where to go?
Or perhaps you just want to take a break from studying for your upcoming exams?
Fortunately, Kingston upon Thames is ideally situated next to several stunning and historic attractions just a short bus ride away, perfect for a peaceful day out this spring.

Isabella Plantation
A must see every spring is the Isabella Plantation in Richmond park. Mid to late April is one of the best times to visit the blooming woodland garden. With vibrant azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, Isabella Plantation in spring feels like a paradise exploding with colour from every angel. If you’re lucky you may be able to catch some colourful mandarin ducks too! Having just gone a few days ago, I would highly recommend going on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds and to witness the transformed spring scenery for yourself!

Hampton Court
One of the biggest attractions in spring is Hampton Court’s lavish tulip fields! In the spring, tulips of every colour variation you can imagine cover the vegetable gardens and are peppered through the entire palace grounds! Aside from the colour blossoms, Hampton Court is also steeped in history and Tudor architecture. Although you have to pay, I highly recommend going while you are still in university to take advantage of your student discounts!

Petersham Nurseries
This hidden gem is known for its exquisite selection of plants, blooming flowers and well curated vintage furniture. Just a short walk away from the river Thames and King Henry’s Mound in Richmond Park, Petersham Nurseries is a lovely place to visit in spring to witness its blooming grapevines and hanging blossoms which weave above its shaded interior! They also have a cafe and restaurant which has a Michelin green star!

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
What better time to visit Kew than in Spring!? With just a 30 min bus ride from the Kingston town centre, you can easily and affordably reach Kew Gardens swiftly. Explore the iconic greenhouses and marvel at the blooming ornamental cherry trees all for a price of £9(student discount)!
