english language paper 1 question 5 help

for english language paper 1 question 5 is it okay to write a narrative as a diary entry instead of writing a proper story? i've always struggled with all of language but mainly question 5, especially timing so i think doing it like a diary entry may help to keep the narrative compact but would i get marked down at all? im just unsure as i've never seen anyone talk about doing it as a diary entry or anything similar so i wanted to check if it was an okay way to approach a narrative question before revising this technique
