Sfe- underpayment? Back payment?

So, my parents have refused for my first year to provide evidence of their income because I had my own house for 2 years before deciding to move across the country to go to university. I’m just finishing my second year and they finally agreed to send in their tax report as I’m getting the minimum and cannot survive. They sent it in just before the last payment came through for summer. Will I be reimbursed for the year or term? Or do I have to take the L again? They have said I don’t qualify to be an independent student since I haven’t rented my own house for longer than 3 years. (I was homeless during the summer before the pandemic up until august 2020) so I don’t have proof sadly.

Any help for student finance?

I can’t get a bursary from the university due to student finance putting me on the minimum loan.

My parents made £16k altogether so I should be getting the max loan?
Hi,

I would recommend ringing SFE or contacting them via the live chat. They will be able to help you with any questions that you may have about what you’re entitled to and if there’s been any errors to what they have said they are giving you next year.

I would also recommend getting in contact with the university support services. I know you have said that you can’t get any bursary’s but there might be other options that you are eligible for. I know YSJ has a student support fund, which is open for all students. So your university may offer something similar.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

You have 9 months from the start of the academic year to apply for finance. If you applied after this, it will be up to the assessor if this is accepted or not. Did you explain in a cover letter why you sent this late? I would suggest contacting us on live chat in your account or call us on 0300 100 0607.

Thanks,
Claire
