Postgraduate accommodation in Durham

Hi!! I just accepted my offer at Durham and I'm SO hyped! I've been spending a while researching the collages, but it has made me kind of worried. I'm an international student who is very sociable and I would hate to be placed in an accommodation somewhere far away from the city centre. (Cough cough Ustinov college)

So I have a few questions because I've been overthinking this too much. Is it nearly impossible for a postgraduate student to get accommodation in the collages in the Bailey or like in St marys? Or will the postgraduates be placed in buildings further away from the city centre?

Is it possible for postgrads to get catering? If it is can we choose if we get catering or not?

And is it lonely for postgrads? Are we allowed to participate in the events and everything that's happening in the collages?

Hiya,

Congratulations on your offer! College allocations are based on your college preference form (You will be asked to rank three colleges) and criteria such as your preference form, the number of students from each department, the level of students and fee status. To answer your question, it isn't impossible to get allocated a college that is not Ustinov.

Catering depends on what college you are allocated, some colleges are fully catered whereas others you can opt out of catering.

I can't speak on what its like as a postgrad because I'm an undergraduate but all students whether postgraduate or undergraduate can participate in college events as well other events like socials, society balls, department events, etc.

I've linked a few resources that can help better explain the allocation process as well as life at Durham from the perspective of a postgraduate student 🙂

Hope this helps!
