is my epq question too broad?

Ichose the question to what extent is social media controlling the lives of young people
is this too broad?
and if it is how can i change it?
I would say it is too broad - what are you classing as social media and what do you mean by controlling the lives of young people? Also who are you classing as young people?

I am classing young people as teenagers.By controlling the lives of young people i mean how is social media altering our brains and and the impact it has on behaviour and decision making
Social media apps like snapchat, instagram and tik tok

You should probably word it as teenagers then, maybe just focus on one or two social media platforms and pick one or two ways that social media can alter the brain.
As above definitely too broad - you probably want to really narrow it down to e.g. "the effects of daily social media use on 14-16 year old decision making" and tbh even then you could specify exactly what social media and to what extent of usage you are looking at, and the kind of decision making. you could obviously swap decision making for e.g. attention, memory, or some specific behaviour. Memory is something you could probably reasonably collect primary data for by having participants do some kind of commonly used memory test and then analysing that against self reported social media usage (obviously lots of methodological factors to consider there though e.g. likely small sample size, biased population based on those available to you, issues with self reported usage etc, but those are all valuable things to evaluate  ). You would actually be able to do some proper inferential statistics potentially that way.

Equally though bear in mind your EPQ is probably going to be largely based on existing research so you might want to see what studies have been done already that are of relevance and construct a question around the sources you're able to use. Then if you are able to do some small scale primary data collection you can be guided by the methodologies of those papers

Would this be a better question why do teenagers keep going back to social media platforms such as tik tok?

mhm no that seems a little off, the other title was good just make it less broad by narrowing it down like someone said to a social media app or classifying who you mean when you say young people. this new title is a bit misleading

Hey seen a few EPQs exploring the effects of social media. The ones that got an A* would explore a specific impact social media has on an particular age grp. For eg: Social media on a teen's body image, how it has caused a rise mental illness, caused mental health to suffer, misrep of things like depression and OCD, how it has brought abt cases of eating disorders etc.
