economics degree apprenticeship at Kent or development economics degree at LSE/ KCL?

Asking provisionally as unsure on whether I’d take ISPP at LSE / International Development at KCL or Econ Degree Apprenticeship @ Oxford Economics

In the long run looking to break into consultancy at the likes of TBI or BCG

Hey @revzorevenue248,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

Personally, I'd recommend the Economics Degree Apprenticeship, whether at Oxford or Kent, as the degree itself is a much more general subject - giving you multiple layers of understanding and avenues of opportunity and career paths, whilst opening you up to understanding the real world via first hand work experience - which future employers view as attractive. On top of that, many students (especially here at Kent) get not just the chance to continue working at the respective government departments after receiving their degree, but some are even offered promotions as an incentive. Obviously, not all do continue (let alone get an offer for promotion), but it's definitely a more secure path to immediate job prospects after university compared to just studying a regular degree programme. This immediate experience you can point to, I would say, is a lot more invaluable when trying to land a job in the consultancy sector (or any sector for that matter).
Basically, it's a much more rigorous degree programme (already more attractive than a general degree), coupled with work experience (very attractive for employers), bundled in one.
The only cons are that it is very competitive (high grade boundaries), and quite stressful (due to being a degree and work experience in one, whilst technically still competing with your fellow students to get good grades). You're not spoon-fed material and work like at school or even uni, you're seen as an adult and accordingly treated as one.

I hope this helps!
Warm regards,

David 🙂

Good morning,

The information on this degree apprenticeship is no longer available. I am only in Y12 but wanted to have a look at the criteria early. Is there any chance you have the information on file somewhere so that I could have a look. I appreciate that things may be different for next year but it would still help.
Kind regards

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. It's great to see that you are looking ahead at your post-sixth form options, but unfortunately, the Economics Degree Apprenticeship at Kent is no longer available to students, which is why you may have struggled to find the information online. Apologies for this.

There is however the Professional Economist Degree Apprenticeship Programme, which may be of interest. You can find lots of helpful information about Kent's Degree Apprenticeship Programmes here. Kent also runs an Undergraduate BSc Economics course, which may also be of interest to you. You can find out more about the undergraduate courses available at Kent here.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Professional Economist Degree Apprenticeship or the Economics degree at Kent, and I'll try my best to answer your queries😊

Best wishes,
Josie
