Cardiff university accommodation

Hi what’s the most sociable/best accommodation for first year, i’m doing media and communications so would be good if it were close to that building but literally don’t know where to start!

Hi there! I would say that the most liveliest university-owned student accommodation would be any of the Talybont buildings, but unfortunately it's a bit far, like a 35 minute walk! Ty Pont Haearn is pretty lively since its right in the heart of city center, and very close to the media building - like an 11min walk. Its owned by Unite Students but the uni has reserved some rooms for Cardiff students I believe 🙂 Adam Street Gardens is also probably the second closest, and its owned by Unite Students still so has basically the same build.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you had any other questions

hey would you say its mainly cardiff uni students at the buildings owned by unite students or is it mixed w uni of south wales/caridff met students too? and it is postgrad students as well? i'm worried that because the JOMEC building is so isolated from the main campus staying away from the main uni halls would just enforce the idea of only socialising in the media student bubble even more and i'd miss out on lots of events ect

Definitely a mix! I would say that a lot of Cardiff Uni students do opt in for Unite Students, from a range of subjects. For example, me myself, being a psychology student. I do believe they ask what university you're from. I am aware some of the halls do ask what year you're in - and try to accommodate to that. It is definitely best to ask the accommodation yourself - in case they have changed this - but this was the case when I applied. But yes, postgrads do stay in these halls as well.

I didn't feel isolated at all when I lived in these halls - I would say that the most important thing is staying active in the student community. It might be keeping up with SU events, joining non-course related societies etc. Most of the promotion of events going on is through social media and emails, so as long as you follow along to that, I think it'll be fine 🙂

Website implies that en-suite rooms are only available to Postgrads in Seng. Hall is that right?

Hi there, yes that is correct 🙂 If you're looking for ensuite for undergrad, you'd be looking at any of the Talybont places, Adam Street Gardens, Ty Pont Haearn, or Clodien House.

Hi there,

This is a great choice. While it is a walk, a lot of students study in the city centre and walk from Talybont, so you won't be the only one. Please let me know if you have any questions I can help with!

All the best,
