Hi, I've taught on Access to HE nursing and midwifery for over 10 years. Just in case anyone is a little unsure why there is a unit on this, an Access pathway has a number of development unit's included alongside topics you study. They are typically things like Applying for H.E, Study Skills, Presentation & Research Skills - the centre chooses what these are and presents them to an awarding body to form a package of study that needs to be approved. There are usually 45 credits for the studied modules, and 15 credits for the development units. Typically for Nursing and Midwifery you would do some Health Science, Biology, and a social science module, usually health studies but sometimes Psychology.
