Hi!

It really depends if all the spaces on the course get filled up before clearing. If there's spaces on the course, then it will enter clearing. You will be able to find out if the course is available in clearing, before results day on the 5th July.
This is a link to the YSJ website that explains more about clearing Clearing | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)

If you don't achieve the grades you require, please don't worry! There's a foundation courses, that you may be able to apply to at clearing if they still have space.
I would definitely recommend that the night before results day that you write down all the clearing numbers, and have your GCSE's somewhere accessible. As it will make clearing so much easier and less stressful if you already have these things done. I would also recommend that you ring the clearing number as early as you can, as it normally gets very busy, and courses do fill up fast.

The foundation courses at YSJ for social sciences have a requirement of 48 UCAS points, there's quite a few different ones so I'll pop a link below so that you can have a look.

Law and Social Sciences Foundation Year | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)

Have you sat all your exams or have you still got a few to go? Exams are a really stressful and overwhelming time, but you've almost finished and you'll be able to relax very soon! Just remember to take breaks from the revision and look after yourself. Good luck!

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

Congratulations with your off from us!

Lots our courses at YSJ timetables vary so it would defiantly depend on your modules and how the course is set out but typically students will have between 9 and 12 hours of teaching hours per week. These hours could be spread across the week so you could be in for a few hours everyday or you could have a couple long days and then independent study time for the other days of the week.

In terms of commuting as you mentioned that you will be a commuting student we offer accommodation for commuting students for up to 3 days per week at a reasonable cost in one of our accommodations. You would have to email our accommodation team in advance of when you would like this as there are limited spaces and it feels up quickly. This is particularly worth staying in if you want a bit of the uni experience or if you have multiple days where your in uni.

I hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you in September!

Hi, you can most likely find your roommates on Facebook by searching the uni accommodation that you are in. People tend to make group chats there to find there roommates. Hope this helps

Hey @YSJstudents I want to pursue masters in criminology and i completed my bachelor’s in psychology. I wanted to go for forensic psychology but unfortunately i do not meet the bps criteria for gbc membership. What are some of the job roles after criminology? I read here that criminology is not a great option and hence I am a bit apprehensive.

Hi,

It really depends on what job you want to do in the future, as this will help weigh up, if a criminology master's is worth pursuing. A lot of individuals who do the course, are planning on going to work within the Criminal Justice System or another similar sector. I have linked a few websites below that show what types of jobs that you can pursue after a criminology degree.

What can I do with a criminology degree? | Prospects.ac.uk

Careers with a Criminology degree (thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk)

I have linked the Criminology and Psychology masters courses below, as well, as they may be worth looking at if your interested in a masters in either criminology or psychology. In regards to your undergraduate not being BPS credited, you may still be able to apply for the psychology masters. However this is something you'll likely need to discuss with the admissions team, who are the best people to advise you, on the relevant requirements needed.

Hi,

Are you a current or soon to be a student at YSJ?

Applications for becoming a Student Ambassador will open soon. Alternatively, there are a few pages on Facebook that normally advertise jobs, I've seen a few adverts for jobs in local hotels and cafes recently. There is also 'Handshake' which is the YSJ careers portal, and advertises jobs for students all year round.

Part time jobs | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)
Student ambassadors | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)

There is also a few student jobs being advertised at the student union on campus currently as well. I have popped the link below. Applications for these close on the 1st September.

Hi Simsd,

Are you a current student at YSJ? I would recommend that you also pop this on the YSJ freshers page on Facebook. You might find more people will see your post over there, especially since results day is very soon, and more people are joining the page!

Good Luck,

Hi, my place has just been confirmed yesterday to study undergraduate Law. I was wondering if you know how the timetable will look like and what amount of independent studying will be expected? I was also wondering where abouts in the building i’ll be and how close that is to places like the library.
Thank you

Reply 15

Also, do you know what happens now? As in how long after my place is confirmed will I hear from the university and what am I likely to hear?
Sorry for all the questions, thank you

Hi,

Have you received a enrolment email yet? Once you have enrolled you will have access to your IT account. On e.vison you will be able to see your timetable. You can also see your timetable on the YSJ app. Normally timetables are not confirmed until a week or two before welcome week, but there might be a provisional one available to view.

Most undergraduate students will have 3 modules in each semester. Each module will have one lecture and seminar. These do vary in length across courses and years. When I was studying my undergraduate degree in professional policing I had roughly 12-15 contact hours on campus across 3-4 days.

In regards to independent studying, your lecturers will mention this in your introduction lecture, but it really comes down to you. Some students will do 30+ hours per week, and some may only do 5-10 hours a week.

I have linked some of Law specific information on the YSJ, website for you below:
LLB Law (yorksj.ac.uk)
Law LLB (Hons) | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)

Law is based in several buildings at YSJ. As law is part of York Business school, a lot of the offices for lecturers and admin staff will be in the De Grey building. However, there is a law clinic and offices in the Quad, and a law court on the first floor of the Foss building. The top floor of the fountains building, has a law library. Most buildings on campus are relatively close by to each other.

Have you attended a open day/ offer holder day and had a campus tour? You can always book onto a campus tour before you start, and a student ambassador will be able to show you where the course specific rooms are.

I have linked some useful information below, for new students at YSJ:
Welcome Guide | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)
Enrolment | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)
Campus tours | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk)

Hope this helps!
