York uni - Alcuin college

Hi,Just wondering if the ensuite shower rooms in Alcuin often flood and if so how bad and is there still an issue with silverfish? Also general opinions of Alcuin would be great.

Hi! I haven't heard anything about this, but if you are concerned I'd suggest you email [email protected] and they will be able to help! In terms of the bathrooms, I'm sure if you are careful they shouldn't flood. If you have any issues with blocked drains etc. you can contact the maintenance team who are always super handy and quick.

I've been in a lot of Alcuin accommodation when I was a York student and more recently helping out at Open Days and I think it's a great option. It's close to the Library and there are facilities including a common room and nearby cafes. The general vibe is really peaceful - if you're up and about in the morning you often see bunnies around Alcuin which always makes my day!

Alcuin definitely is regarded as one of the quieter colleges, so if you’re after a party college it’s not the one for you. This is largely because a lot of med/nursing students choose it due to its location to their department and them having the most busy timetables and placements. It’s definitely in a great location - near the library and minutes from Market Square where the shops are. As for silverfish this is gonna be a problem with any college on West because they’re so old lol. I was in Halifax (known as silverfish central) and didnt really have much of an issue, so I doubt you will either. As for the ensuite flooding, I wouldn’t know as I was shared bath but I’ve never heard anyone at York complaining about theirs flooding 🙂
