Year froze after 1 semester

Hi,

Just wanted to ask for a friend, she started university in January 2024, the 1st semester is almost finished, due on 12th of May, but she has some personal problems and wants to suspend this year, as she needs to leave for her home country. Will her student finance be affected? What is the procedure in this situation. What kind of formalities does she have to do? Thanks a lot

Hi Sana,

When you suspend we will require an electronic Change of Circumstance (COC) from your university to confirm the date you last attended your course. Once this is received and processed our assessors will recalculate your entitlement for the length of time you attended the course which may lead to an overpayment. If you have an overpayment you can either pay this back right away or agree a payment plan with the collections team, or when you do return this will be removed from your future entitlement. So do ensure she asks them to send this over to prevent any further payments being released. Thanks, Jason
