Child Dependant Grant

Hi,

I am currently in Uni studying Business. I have been advised by my peers that I could claim Dependant grant on top of my maintenance loan.

I have already submitted a paperwork (child benefit letter) to SFE but they have not accepted it because it’s on my partner’s name. My partner called child benefit and asked them send a letter to confirm that I am the father.

Will SFE accept that? Or would I have to claim child benefit myself ?

On my son’s birth certificate it also states my name so Im thinking it might work?

I am self employed currently and don’t receive any Universal or anything.

Hi there,

Do you claim Child Tax Credits or the child element of Universal Credit? If so, is that in your name?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi,

I dont receive anything as I said im just self employed. Both my child and partner is dependent on me. My partner does receive child benefit. We have asked them to send any letter which would state my name and they did send one out saying that the childs information has been verified and in the general registrars the data base is showing that both me and my partner are the parents. And as additional obviously we have the birth certificate to prove that its my child. There isnt any other evidence I could possibly use. I dont understand why a birth certificate isn’t enough to prove its my child. Thanks

Hi there. If you and your partner are still together we can accept the child benefit letter in your partners name, we do also need to birth certificate if you haven't provided this already. Thanks, Leah.
