40 UCAS points - Adult.

Hi all, looking for some advice as I'm guessing you'll know a lot more than me!

I've been in full time work now for quite some time, I've realised I'm short 40 UCAS points for a potential career move. Any idea how I'd go about getting these? The whole UCAS system is never something I dealt with.

I'm not looking to spend years taking A levels or anything similar, I work in the emergency services so free time is a luxury I don't have much of!

Thank you for any help!

Hi there,

While the UCAS system is often associated with A-levels, there are many ways to earn UCAS points without committing to lengthy courses.

For example, consider taking an additional A-level or AS-level. Although three A-levels are standard, some students take four or even five A-levels as an extra A-level can earn you up to 140 UCAS points. Make sure to focus on subjects that align with your interests and career goals.

Additionally, opt for Level 3 Diplomas, Certificates and Awards. These might be challenging to study alongside your A-Levels, so consider lower qualifications that are more manageable but still contribute UCAS points (equivalent to half an A-Level). Remember to explore distance learning courses or evening classes at your local college to fit your schedule.

Finally, research Community-Based Courses. For instance, organizations like ASDAN offer courses that can earn you additional UCAS points. Make sure to reach out to your school or college to learn more about these classes and how can they improve your UCAS profile.

Remember that UCAS points aren’t solely tied to A-levels as by strategically choosing additional qualifications and exploring alternative pathways, you can easily accumulate the points you need for your career move.

I hope I managed to help!

Best of luck,
Melanie

A one-year Access to Higher Education Diploma might be suitable for you. They are available at local colleges or as online courses:
