Student Finance Uk Irish student

Hi
I am a Republic of Ireland citizen, I'm seeking to access Student Finance and aiming to receive full maintenance support, including the maintenance grant. Despite not having lived in the UK previously, I'm interested in understanding if having a relative who's been a UK citizen residing there for over three years might influence my eligibility.
I will be an undergrad first-year student!

Hi there,

To be entitled to the Maintenance Loan you need to have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of your course.

So, based on this you'll be fine to to apply for the Tuition Fee Loan but not the Maintenance Loan, unfortunately.

Potentially, you could be eligible for the Maintenance Loan if you'll be working while you study, is this something you plan to do?

Thanks, Graeme

Thanks for your reply! Yes I definitely intend to work while studying, so how would I go about applying for the maintenance in that case? thank you

Is it September 2024 when you're looking to begin? Thanks, Jason

yes, it is!
Hi there. Do you hold settled or pre-settled status under the EU settlement scheme? Thanks, Leah.

Thanks, just to say - to be eligible you need either Pre-Settled or Settled Status, which you can get from the Home Office.

And to apply you can post this form to us here. Once you're working you can then send us your contract of employment and payslips.

Thanks, Graeme

(Just to say, you can always apply for the Tuition Fee Loan only first, and then apply as a Migrant Worker later, if that's easier)
