GCSE options (pls help guys!)

Hey, I recently picked my GCSE options and I want to pursue a career in medicine, are these good options? I might be able to change them if they aren't good.

- Maths (Top set)
-English Language and Literature
-Triple Science
- Geography
- Comp Sci
- Further Maths
-French

Unfortunately my school is quite small, so has limited GCSE options. So they have less classes and less slots on the timetable. My original idea was to have Geography, History, French, Spanish and Further Maths, but that's impossible because of the allocations. I had to choose Computer Science because of this.

Do you think these options are appropriate for becoming a doctor in the future? I do know that universities tend to look at your GCSE options.

Thanks for any answers 🙂

Oh, and Religious Studies as a half GCSE course, but it's compulsory.

Hi @Sonia334,

Medicine is a competitive course so it is likely that universities will look back at your GCSES, but by looking at your choices I think your options are perfectly fine. By taking further maths and triple sciences, this will prepare you well for sixth form and where I assume you'll most likely take maths and sciences in A-levels as well.

Good luck!

Ask me any questions if you want 🙂

Hey , your GCSE'S option sound great . The only thing I'd say is make sure to pick what you actually want for your GCSE'S as it's not about how great the subject sounds but its about the numbers that are on you result paper.

the triple sciences and top-set maths are what's most important. languages and comp-sci will be very desirable- especially for the future as jobs become more reliant tech. I picked computing for my gcse and have just completed the first year of my course, it's really hard (but interesting if you're considering a job in stem/medicine). good luck, you've got this!

I'd forget FMaths [it's not a GCSE technically] and focus on getting grade 9s in the others. FMaths does not help with A level Maths in case they are spinning you that line!

These options are perfect. I wish that someone had told me this when I was younger - medical schools really only care about GCSE grades and not about the subjects you pick. As long as you have studied AND achieved a good grade in Maths, the Sciences and English, you are good to go! A level choices matter way more, so at this stage, my advice is to pick what you enjoy. As someone else mentioned, further maths doesn't really help with A level maths, so if you prefer Spanish then I would definitely suggest doing that instead. Feel free to ask any other qs

Don't do FMaths - I teach Maths and it covers stuff not even in A level! It's not a GCSE either

Hey, your GCSE options do look great for pursuing medicine in the future but just remember that GCSEs are just the start and aren’t the decider for your career. But, triple science and further maths do give you a good set up for STEM subjects at college/sixth form, so those were definitely very good choices!
