How to improve my fitness

I'm pretty unfit now and, to be quite honest, I don't exercise much other than walking. I want to change this.

I put on a lot of weight a few years ago due to medication I am taking, but I've now lost most of it.

What's the best way to improve my general fitness, preferably without giving myself a heart attack...?

Thanks.

That's fantastic about your weight loss!🙌 Swimming or yoga are great ideas to get moving in a low-impact way. They're a fun way to build some fitness without pushing yourself too hard. Speaking of building fitness, have you ever thought about talking to a trainer? They can give you a personalized plan to reach your goals. Also, I was just curious did medications like Wegovy injections play a role in your success?🤔

Thanks for the advice.

I put on the weight because I am taking a medication which increases appetite.
But the dosage was reduced and lost the weight over a couple of years 😃

The key to weight loss is diet. Specifically being in a calorie deficit.

Good starting point is here: https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/lose-weight/

As for fitness. What do you want to do? Improve your cardiovascular fitness? Get strong? Learn to back flip?

Couch to 5k is something that has worked for many people. There are probably plenty of sports teams near you that will welcome beginners. If you want to get in the gym, I have a wealth of resources than can help.

You just need to start small and build your way up. The best general advice I can give is find something you enjoy because that will be the thing you'll stick at.

Doing another sports to make your persistance better. Better persistance means better fitness. It was already named, but swimming is a good thing for fitness.

I'd love a trainer who could motivate me...and make sure I don't have a heart attack on my first day!!

Yes, swimming sounds good and it's something I already love. I scuba dive, as it happens, but that's not really a strenuous activity.

Start slow with gentle exercises like walking and gradually increase intensity. Incorporate strength training and cardio gradually. Consult a doctor to ensure safety, especially considering medication.

Honestly just walk places when you can to start. I did this, just walking to anywhere withing 3 miles unless I'm in a hurry. The low impact exercise will build up your general fitness. After you feel comfortable I'd download couch to 5km and work through that.
