i feel suffocated and i need help.

i (f20) live at home with both my parents and my younger brother who is 11. my parents are semi strict as we are south asian and muslim. i want to go away for a weekend with my best friend of 16 years, who they know shes stayed at mines multiple times. she lives away for uni, so has asked me to stay a couple of nights as she has the student house to herself and needs help packing and stuff to move back to our home city. i want to ask my parents to let me go, but i get choked up before i can even ask them. i feel like im 20 years old, how long am i meant to be feeling this way? i just want to enjoy my life and do things young people are meant to do. their reasonings are that they dont think girls should stay anywhere overnight without a male family member.

You will feel that way for the rest of your parent's existence or a challenge of authority until you face your troubles.

There is nothing wrong in my opinion with having respect and common decency in asking your parents, irrespective of your age. Whilst they legally can't do anything, it actually strengthens bonds being honest and obedient to your parents. However don't make what I am saying mean that your parents can boss you around unnecessarily. Make compromises, meet half way.

You will be fine.

You might just have to go along with their rules until you can move out
My sister was very rebellious at 18, going out clubbing and having a boyfriend, but she got forced to move out into her bf’s house and she wasn’t ready yet
