Hello,

It depends. If you want a double bed, then France House is the place to go to. However, you get more shelves and desk space in other accommodations such as in Maurice, Creed and Beaumont Court, for example, and they're still en-suites. Feilden House has basically same type of bedrooms as Maurice et al, but you have a whopping 9 or 11 flatmates or some ridiculously large number like that. They have however some of the nicest and most modern kitchens around.

Generally speaking, the images presented to you in each individual accommodation accurately reflect what you'll get. Some minor differences, obviously, depending on which room you get, but you can guide yourself off of that. You get the room in a nice and clean state and then do pretty much whatever you want with it. They're alright, in my opinion.

Hey, I firmed QM yesterday for undergrad, and I wanna ask like can I still apply and when can u apply for accom deadline? How do u apply for accommodation. Also, I hope its not off topic question but like how easy is it to make friends at QM whether its accommodation or at uni as a whole, like is it easy or would anything happen if u strike to a random person for a random convo, would they ignore or just talk regardless.

The deadline for applying to Queen Mary halls this year is the 30th of June. I know people that applied after the deadline and got it this year but I wouldn't risk it if I were you. You apply to accommodation by going through Mysis, which is the Queen Mary applicant/student portal (they should have sent you the login details when you applied), and in there you'll find the link to apply to accommodation.

I found it super easy to make friends in halls. I got along excellent with two of my flatmates and we hung out every now and again. I got along nicely with my other flatmates but we never really clicked socially and we largely moved in separate social circles, although we did go to the local Wetherspoons a number of times as a flat. I got along like a house on fire with the flat next door to mine. They magically appeared in my kitchen during fresher's week and the rest, as they say, is history. I was also extremely lucky to live on one of the U-shaped buildings that have the huge kitchen windows with no blinds and so we kept inviting and putting signs in there inviting people over and going to other people's flat. Must've met a good half or more of the people living in my hall like that. You also somehow start making connections with other halls and explore and it's a great fun to meet and make new friends... mind you though, you meet too many people and you realise you actually only care about a couple and then you just sort of drift off and concentrate in the people you actually want to keep around as friends in general - you go, spy a friend sitting with new people, join them and pow, new friends.

Societies are also a good way to make friends. I know everyone says this but it's so true. Particularly true for the Music and Debating society. It is a time-honoured tradition at both these societies (and many more) to go to Wetherspoons after many sessions so, the sense of camaraderie and friendship is very quick to develop in these societies and I've made some of my best friends like this. Wetherspoons is also a great place to make friends.

I struggled to make friends in my course (psychology). Queen Mary has a large share of commuter students but psychology in particular has plenty of these, which means you are friendly to a bunch of people but it isn't really conductive to making proper friendships, as a great deal of commuters just go straight home after the lectures. But I built my own friendship group there anyway and now that I've convinced them to leave their houses every now and again, my course friendships are going places.

But despite this, you definitely will not struggle to make friends if you put yourself out there. It'll happen almost naturally, without you even noticing :smile:
