Loughborough uni 2024

Hi! I’ve firmed Loughborough uni to start this year and was wondering if anyone else has/ is thinking of going? I’d love to know a few people before starting so it’s a bit less intimidating aha, I’ll be studying media and communications

Hi there! I'm a current student (second year) so if you have any questions, just let me know 🙂 If you're also looking for people to connect to, I'd recommend joining an applicate facebook page (there's usually one for each year) as I found it super helpful!

Thank you! 🙂 I haven’t found an applicant group on Facebook yet but maybe it’s still too early! How did you find your first few weeks of uni/ the settling in period?

Hey! Are you looking forward to starting? I’m wishing we could sort accommodation out now but I know we can’t apply yet aha

Yeahhh I know. I was looking through some of them yesterday trying to make a shortlist. Do you think you'll go catered or non-catered?

I’m thinking self-catered hopefully, do you have any favourites so far?

For me, it was slightly difficult due to the fact I'm Autistic with social anxiety. however, I still found I'd settled in with my flatmates within the few days. I got homesick for a few days but my parents checked up on me each day for the first week (my mum still wishes me a good night everyday now haha). I didn't do any fresher events because a lot of them were nightclub events which I can't go to due to sensory issues but I found many opportunities to make friends with the hall. Making friends on my course was a little harder but now I have two super close ones.

My biggest recommendation is joining as many societies as you can during the free taster sessions and it's so much easier to make friends through that and get into a habit of maintaining that uni-life balance 🙂 There's amazing student support and I was blessed with the disability support network since they run events for those of us who struggle with socialisation (anyone can go to them too!).

All university halls also have group chats so once you get one (if living in), you'll be given a link to it so you can speak to your flatmates before moving it (this really helped me as I knew who I was living in before moving it). Getting around campus is pretty easy and you can google maps everything, so don't worry too much about that. Everything is well signed too and there's a campus shuttle! You get a week of freshers to settle in without classes which was great. I used it to find my lessons before they actually started which I recommend to avoid any panic. Within 2 weeks of classes, I felt like I'd been there for ages and knew my way around super well.

Hope that helps! 🙂

The Holt looks really nice but I'm seeing loads of people saying it's not as close to campus as the others

Thank you so much, this is super helpful and reassuring to hear that you settled in and got used to university quickly and finding where you’re classes are beforehand sounds like a great idea, directions and navigating aren’t really my strong points aha! Thank you again

Ahh I liked the holt too but had heard the same, that it’s a bit more off campus compared to the others. I kinda liked Robert Bakewell and Hazelrigg-Rutland, they seemed pretty nice and a bit more central-ish

Yeahhh, I was looking at those ones too. I think my biggest thing when I was looking was not wanting to share a bathroom but I'm hearing more and more that it's not actually that bad so now I'm a bit torn 😅 I kinda want to wait until there's a group chat or something before I start properly going through them all.

There is an official group that is linked on their website. There's no one in it yet so I assume it's not up and running

Ahh I think I’d prefer an en-suite room too but yeh I don’t think shared would be too bad, did you go to any of the offer holder days?

Ahh thank you! I’ll have to remember to have a look at that a bit closer to September, hopefully it’ll be running then!
