For you, probably Riego Street, simply because it's so close! And the ECA is a nice area too - the Bread Street co-op, Tollcross, Bruntsfield not too far away.

Otherwise, good options are Warrender (nice walk across the Meadows to uni), or maybe South College/Nicolson Street, or the Pleasance ones like Darroch and New Arthur (slightly longer walk).

A lot of chatter happens with first years wanting to know which accom to pick. Truly, if you aren't in Pollock then they're all much of a muchness. The Cowgate ones (Robbie's, Kincaid's) are slightly party-er, partly because they're in the clubbing area but really because the flats have bigger kitchens. But none of the parties I've been to there have been any good, and I've had far more fun at smaller-flat pres

I agree with Warrender, I’m just finishing my first year at Edinburgh and I’ve stayed in Warrender Park Crescent this year and had a pretty good time. As with all student accom the facilities aren’t always the most modern but the flats are a nice size (I’m sharing with 4 others), the residence assistants are amazing and it’s a quiet area. I’m not really into partying that much though so couldn’t give any thoughts in that area but I’ve met some great people and I really like it here. It’s also within walking distance to ECA.

I lived in Riego Street accom for first year it was alright. The rooms and kitchens are very outdated. You get a lot more mature students/ second years there so it’s quiet and not party-ish. Met really nice people and became close friends with flatmates due to the calmer vibe- my other friends weren’t as close with their flatmates in the party halls. Riego is a 5 min walk from ECA, a 20 min walk from Edinburgh new town/ princes street,15/20 min walk from the main library.

Accoms along cowgate are more modern imo but it’s very loud if you’re not a party animal. They’re not far from ECA either only about 15/20 mins walk.

Like another poster said they’re all pretty samey so I wouldn’t worry where you choose too much- I got my second choice of accom even though I applied for it later than friends.
