Maths and physics super curriculars

Hi. I’m thinking of applying for a maths and physics degree (or something along those lines) this autumn. I’m looking for some supercurricular suggestions which combine the two subjects. Preferably not books/reading though.

If you go to a state school in the UK there is programme called COMPOS which is run by oxford university for people from years 10-13. It consists of webinars, problem sets and tutorials from Oxford students on maths and physics. It will start again in September with the first assignment being a sort of admissions test however the marks required to get in aren't super high. It's quite a lot of work so maybe not an easy option but will make your maths and physics improve lots and will be something impressive to write on your personal statement. It's not the only option but definitely something to consider.

Thank you. I have signed up for the follow on programme but like you said it’s a big time commitment and at the moment I’ve got school stuff which I’m prioritising. But I’m going to try and get back on it

Otherwise there is a website called Gresham College Lectures which has lots of very interesting lectures on both maths and physics which can be a starting point to explore what you are really interested in.

Hi again everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew of any outreach programmes/ preparation courses/ taster days that don't give priority to certain people? I have been applying for a quite a few but disappointingly not getting on to any of them. If you have any suggestions then please share. Thanks!
