Alevel year 12 mocks

Hi! I have my high stakes year 12 mocks in about a week and whilst i have been revising here and there i’m really worried. In order to move into year 13 you need to get D’s and above. Whilst that doesn’t sound too bad… i’m worried for chemistry as I was only able to get a D in December mocks. Moreover, the Biology and Chemistry mock is on the same day?? I’m unsure whether to focus more on Chemistry since I have done worse in the past or just try and do it equally to achieve similar grades. I really want B’s for all my subjects for this mock. Does anyone know tips for these end of year mocks and where to even start with my revision. Thanks!

I'm also in Year 12 but studying completely different subjects (philosophy, psychology and politics). I would suggest that you put more time into the subject you struggle with most, as this will ultimately be the thing that determines whether you progress to Year 13 or not. If you struggle in chemistry, I would firstly, identify your areas of weakness and secondly, focus on your knowledge and understand of these areas. Past papers in the next few weeks will be your best friend. You should also use textbooks and online resources to test your understanding and improve your knowledge. Ask your teachers and peers who are doing well for advice if you are struggling in certain areas, as they will be able to give you a good guide for making improvements. This does not mean you should neglect your other subjects in any way, it just means that you should spend more time in chemistry if you want a better grade.

I have faced a similar struggle in philosophy. I have been trying to push myself up to an A in philosophy the whole year, with my most recent grade being a B, the one before that a C and my first grade being a D. I've identified that with philosophy, its not necessarily that I don't understand, its just that I misread questions and don't go beyond the specification enough in my arguments, so this is something I'm working on more. My biggest struggle has been psychology. While I usually achieve As, I have found myself really having to put in the work this time for a better grade. I have to do a lot more psychology revision than any other subject. Blurting and flashcards is very helpful in subjects with heavy content, such as chemistry and psychology. In terms of starting your revision, making a checklist with all the topics and subtopics on the syllabus can make it easy to organise and divide your revision up. I'm aiming for 2 hours a day on 4/5 weekdays and 4 hours per day on the weekend. This week, I was unable to meet all of those targets as it was the first week back and I had other assessments that I had to get out the way before mocks, but my proper revision will start next week. I would try using free periods and study spaces as much as possible in the next few weeks for chemistry, since you'll probably get more work done. I understand the pressure, as in my school, we also have to achieve Ds or above to progress into the next year, but as long as you tackle your revision strategically, you should get the grades you are aiming for.

Good luck with your revision!

Hi im in y13 and got A*/As in bio chem and psych on my y12 mocks
For bio its all in the past paper questions especially for the big mark questions learn what they give marks for (e.g. in AQA they normally want specifics like if it is used for respiration they want that key word)
In chem - i think its worth knowing the content more especially in organic and then do some past paper questions

Basically you have to put in a lot of time at least 5h a week to get this done
