Film Student question for university

hi !

I am currently about to start my A-Level exams and then I am taking a gap year, before hopefully going to study film production at university. I currently do not own a laptop (I borrow my older sister's MacBook Pro when I need to lol) and so will need to purchase one before uni. I will likely use the laptop for film work, including editing, and will need a lot of space and for it to run smoothly. Do any film students have any suggestions?

Also, are there any things I should focus on in my gap year as an upcoming film student? Any techniques to do with filmmaking that you are expected to know, or that you wish you had done beforehand? I'm worried that I don't have enough experience or that I'll embarrass myself by not having enough skills.

Thank you !!

Lots of universities give you £500 towards a laptop for creative subjects, but i’d look into this further as it isn’t all universities. I have a macbook pro 2019 and it’s the best thing i’ve ever had, i got it refurbished a year ago and it was only £800 for 16 inch, works like new and the apps i use such as photoshop is so smooth.

You won’t be required to know much, first year is always to get everyone up to the same standard, no need to worry 🙂
