English lit AQA NEA

Hi i’m a year 12 student and starting my NEA in a few weeks, my teacher has decided that for our old text we are going to do the picture of dorian gray. So now i have to pick my own modern text and i have my idea on one however im not sure if its a good idea.

The text i was thinking is the virgin suicides its a book i enjoy and has similar themes of youth, beauty, superficiality of society, negative consequences of influences and possibly more.

But if anyone has any other modern text recommendations or reasons as to why the virgin suicides is a bad choice please let me know.
