RE GCSE

So I'm 15 Yr old Sikh student learning RE and I have a cousin which they did sikhs beliefs in gcse and I wanted to do learn aswell, I asked my teacher if I could and after some time she denied me that I couldn't learn, I was disappointed and I found that there is sikh teachings book so there is an option of learning the belief. Anyone tryna give any advise that I should talk to the teacher or principal?

I think that it’s the school that chooses what religions students do

Yes the school does choose which is Islam and Christianity but if there's is a book of sikhs beliefs where it can be purchased, why not let student learn it?

Probably due to the school policy in that you’ll probably still be made to do Islam and Christianity for the actual exam. I wasn’t able to not do history for example (as in I wasn’t able to study GCSE Spanish and French instead of doing History and French or RE and French).

I personally used this book for revision (https://www.amazon.co.uk/AQA-GCSE-Religious-Studies-9-1/dp/138201502X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=1D9ZQ1P35U7E2&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.scBTBiIG4rMvzn_Y1Icbmx3-UUA8MxVGyRum4qIz71nmCLBy0KZuHELpXaJqiZRbAgGdniHFbnZcVgQ8PL1qfCydlTfmNetkoaf_RPkWTnpS4_JsWfLRMR5owcuOwHcZA_SZtzp0kzJKjUzXbXA9a4O4mw86r5GXSuCjmAkFfTt97pZbij7Qhq_YmD6N9NLH_BKGll5NPUtC-FaS2RWEdQ.GUsHn_h1w4Hbq2DQk6ewKsyjfuKcEIb39mftPMhi3Bg&dib_tag=se&keywords=aqa+religious+studies+sikhism+revision+guide&qid=1713715866&sprefix=aqa+religious+studies+skihism+revision+guide%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-1) but I used the Christianity and Islam one because that’s what I did.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GCSE-Religious-Studies-AQA-Sikhism/dp/0198370377/ref=pd_aw_sim_m_sccl_1/262-7431816-3120247?pd_rd_w=Rpz2f&content-id=amzn1.sym.eb7eab0a-a529-4b90-a647-fcd83961e127&pf_rd_p=eb7eab0a-a529-4b90-a647-fcd83961e127&pf_rd_r=ZWDTFKBHNAKQDZ33AGH9&pd_rd_wg=46Ejd&pd_rd_r=d3b60f66-2fb1-4cbc-8110-140bc708653d&pd_rd_i=0198370377&psc=1

But yeah I don’t know how you can convince the teacher to let you do the exam if that’s what you’re asking.

Edit: this is assuming that you do AQA, I don’t know about other exam boards.

Your school would probably have to request you do a separate paper which makes the process more complicated, so that's why your teacher probably won't let you study Sikhism.
Also, what exam board is this for?

my school did christianity and islam, but me and some of my friends convinced them to let us do christianity and hinduism instead (fyi i am a hindu)
try speaking to the head of rs or the exams officers at your school if you want to do sikhism
i've got to say though, it's difficult
we had to teach ourselves the hinduism course. and i found it quite difficult to do things without teacher support. its also difficult to find quotes.

if you end up doing sikhism i highly recommed the revision guide that was posted on this thread earlier, it really saved my life for hinduism. it gives you loads of quotes and is more concise than the textbook. the textbook tends to waffle a lot.

you can always pay to sit the exam outside of the school in a private exam centre, although it may be too late to do this now if you want to sit the gcse this year.
