Being gay at Loughborough University

Hi,
I'm pretty seriously considering Lboro to study Mechanical Engineering. I've really liked the vibe both times I've been to look around. I'm not super sporty (definitely not competition team level in anything) but I've got nothing against sports culture and would like to get involved.
My main concern is that the sporty dynamic will attract homophobia. I'm a fairly masculine gay man (not many people realise unless I tell them) and while I have nothing against traditional LGBT+ culture, it's not really for me personally. I'm pretty confident and extraverted so not worried about fitting in / making friends. I just don't want to end up in accommodation with a bunch of homophobic football boys, for example.
Anyone got any experience of this? I appreciate it's a pretty specific question.
Thanks
Hey!
I'm currently at Loughborough and I'm a bisexual woman myself.
I must say, I have a lot of gay friends who aren't really all that sporty who have found their people no problem.
I have also got gay friends who do play sports (football, lacrosse, hockey) and again, they have not really had to deal with any homophobia on their teams or their accommodations.
From what I've seen and experienced over the past 5 years that I've been here is that people don't really care if you're gay, bi, or not, they just care that you're a sound and respectful human being.
So if it's any help, I would say that Loughborough is a great place for your course as well as extracurriculars and that being gay isn't a big deal here

Very valid, i'm feeling the same. I have an unconditional offer from loughborough and am probably gonna firm. I'm also a gay man that's not very sporty. I also dont really like to associate with the traditional LGBT values either. I'm worried a little about homophobia and inclusion but we're probably both overthinking. We're both gonna be fine

Would not be the first time I've overthought something 😅. I'm sure it will be fine when we get there.
