Hi sarah_1h,

Congratulations on both of your offers! Both Exeter and Birmingham are great universities.

Naturally I’m unsure about Birmingham, but I can tell you about Exeter.

I want to preface by saying that Exeter is not as big of a city as Birmingham, which oftentimes people see as a negative. However, having studied here for three years I can say that I’ve never been bored by Exeter. There’s a plethora of bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes etc. in the city, alongside a high street with a wealth of different shops. The city also has brilliant green spaces and is situated near two beautiful beaches, Exmouth and Dawlish. They’re very fun to visit in the summer with friends! The Quay and Cathedral also make two very scenic green spaces to enjoy, and I often visit them to step away from my uni work and relax. Overall, I’ve found that being in a smaller city makes me feel a lot safer.

In terms of societies, we have over 300. Here is the link so you can explore what we have on offer - https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/life/societies/.

They range from sports, to volunteering, and many courses have their own society. I’ve made some amazing friends through societies and clubs, and during Fresher’s Week many offer taster sessions so you can see what the society offers.

There’s a lot I could talk about, but if you have any questions about anything more specific, please don’t hesitate to ask. When I was deciding on a university, the most helpful thing for me was weighing up the courses, accommodation, and student life. I’d also recommend visiting open days if you’re in the position to do so.

All the best,

Jen,
