Glasgow Accommodation as a medic (QM VS murano)

Hi! I've put Glasgow as my firm as a medic and is now thinking about accommodation.

I'm struggling between Murano and QM. Obviously I'd want an ensuite room but i heard Murano is the place to be as a first year cuz u get to socialise quite a lot, and that is something I'd like to do.

However, as a medic, do we even get that much time to socialise? Would QM, being the quieter place, be a better option in this case?

Hi @foodandsleep,

Thanks for your question. I am not a Medicine student, but if you are a sociable person, socialising is a healthy part of student life. There are many opportunities to get involved in social activities, but I appreciate the value of finding the right accomodation for you.

If you would like to ask a Medicine student about their experience, you can do so here: https://www.gla.ac.uk/study/studentlife/askastudent/

More information on UofG accommodations is available here: www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/accommodation/

If you are interested in getting involved in societies, which is also a great way to socialise and meet like-minded people, more information on UofG's clubs and societies can be found here: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/clubs-socs/find/

I hope this was helpful!

Hi there,

I am a first year student currently staying at Queen Margaret's. I'd say although you'll meet lots of people at either accommodation, QM does tend to have a particularly high number of medicine students, which could be nice to meet more people on your course. I've loved staying at QM, most notably for the ensuite, slightly larger rooms and my daily commute through the botanic gardens! Murano is often considered to be more 'social' than the other halls, but if you put yourself out there you'll meet amazing people no matter where you stay. It's also worth noting you will almost definitely meet people from different halls to your own, so will be able to visit their halls and reap the social benefits there too! As an engineering student, I found I really appreciated the extra personal space, and particularly during exam season, the quiet, as QM is a much smaller halls. However, I have friends in almost all the different halls, and all of them have had absolutely no problem meeting people and having a great first year, so no matter what you choose I'm sure you'll have a great time!

All the best with your decision!
