Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, marries Desdemona, the daughter of a Venetian senator. Iago, Othello's ensign, is angry that Othello passed him over for a promotion, so he hatches a plan to get revenge.

Iago tricks Othello into believing that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio, another officer. Othello becomes consumed by jealousy and eventually smothers Desdemona to death. Iago's treachery is eventually revealed, but not before Othello also kills himself out of grief.

The play explores themes of racism, manipulation, and the destructive power of jealousy and mistrust in relationships

Disclaimer: I asked Perplexity to summarise Othello as if presenting to a 15 year old
