Studio or shared accommodation. Please help

Hello, so after I got into my PhD program I started looking into accommodation, mainly house shares as the rent is cheaper and I will have people to talk to. After some viewings where the state of these house shares were truly disgusting to me (food boxes, junk ect just left in the corridor) I thought to myself well can I live with a bunch of people I don’t know who are potentially very messy, the answer was no.

I then looked into a few studios which I really liked, clean and good size, my main worry is studios are >£800 which is 50% of my stipend. Even if the price wasn’t an issue the issue is I do enjoy human connection and talking to people.

What should I do, I have no guarantee I’ll live with clean people or nice people. I guess I’ll make friends in my lab and through clubs. Any advice is welcome

Hi there,
Ultimately, it's your decision on where you'd feel most comfortable living. It may be worth looking further into studios. For example, at Student Roost, our studios come with all bills included (and no hidden costs) so you don't need to worry about that. Also, we're big on hosting events and encouraging residents to get together, so you'd still have the opportunity to socialise with your fellow residents.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nicky,
Unfortunately my city doesn't have a student roost, because that sounds like it would be ideal. The city I'm moving to most of the studios I've seen are way over budget. I think it's going to be a wait and see situation as I've been told landlords will put up properties until July

Hi there,
No worries, it may be worth looking to see if there are any similar providers with studios available that are within your budget. I hope you find somewhere suitable!
