UAL Diagnostic Foundation

Hello! I got accepted into BA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts and into UAL Diagnostic Foundation. I am not sure whether I should directly go into BA Fine Art since or do a year at UAL Foundation since I believe I have more interests beyond Fine Art. I am slightly building interest in the communication area, so if I go to Foundation, I think I will specialise into Communication pathway, but on the website, it says that the communication pathway is held in Lime Grove... I really want to study at Archway campus... Is fashion communication taught in the Archway campus? Or Lime Grove?
Heya, congrats on both the offers!! Fashion communication is taught on the Lime Grove campus and not Archway unfortunately :frown:

I think that the Foundation can be pretty valuable in deciding what you want to do if you're feeling unsure (as long as time and money aren't too much of a constraint). It's one year of exploring other interests and areas instead of committing to fine art for 3 years (+ 27k debt if home or more), and I don't think you'll encounter much problem applying again to UAL (especially if you got an offer for fine art given how competitive is!!).

Of course, take this all with a grain of salt and make the decision you feel is best - go with your gut/ heart

Good luck!!

Hiya! I just about finished the foundation course at Camberwell. The foundation course is such an amazing course. I specialise in Film & Animation, but I know quite a few people in the other communications specialisms, and they also enjoy it. The foundation is worth going to, and maybe see if you could defer your BA offer if you decide to go to the foundation. The foundation is definitely a safety net year to experiment. My style and my way of thinking has improved so much because of it. Also, foundation students tend be way more prepared than those going straight into BA because of that extra year.

I don’t know anything about the campus situation because you will be apart of the first year in the new campuses. But I would try emailing ual to see what they say.

If you have any more questions please lmk!

Hi! I have a question for the specialist mode. I got accepted for fine art specialist mode foundation 2024, but I kinda want to study fashion and textile. Is it possible to change it after the part 1? The email I got says I will get to choose the major after the part 1 but it's confusing since it's a 'specialist mode'. Thank you!

Hiya, so sorry for the late reply, I barely check on here. But I'm not sure, typically those who chose a specialist mode (not diagnostic) will later choose a specialism from that area. So last year, because I did communications, I had the choice of Film & Animation, Illustration and Graphic Design. I would deffo email admissions to ask if you are able to choose fashion and textile in part 2 despite already picking fine art. But keep in mind that ual tries to limit how many people do fashion because it's soooo popular.
