Mathematics/Computer Science Postgraduate Applications 2024

I think it'd be good to have a Maths/Computer Science postgrad thread.

Optional questions:

What qualifications do you have?

Are you coming directly from another course, or applying from outside academia?

What universities are you considering?

Is there a particular area that you want to focus on?

What excites you about starting this course?

If you are doing a research course, do you have a proposal brief?

How are you going to fund it?

Have you made contact with potential supervisors?

Have you started on funding application?

Are there parts of the process that you're not sure about?

I've got a First Class BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Oxford. (Soon to flower into an MA. 😁)
I've been working as a software engineer since I graduated 6 years ago. I wasn't really progressing and wanted to work on more difficult problems that used my skills better. I love studying, and I missed doing formal proofs from uni. I've made contact with two professors, and I'm meeting one next week (haven't heard back from the other).

I'm interested in applying for a PhD or MSc in the theoretical side of computer science. I'm going to apply for a project that's about automatically proving the correctness of programs. I'm also interested in the development of Martin Lof type theory / HoTT.

Where I'm at currently is:

writing my cover letter + research proposal for my first funding application,

finding other professors to contact, and

reading papers on the subjects I want to apply for.

Let me know where you're at, and whether you have any questions.
