The Student Room Group

Postgrad Loan Application Requirements

My Timeline:

22/03/2024 applied for my postgrad loan
06/04/2024 got a request to send my docs
09/04/2024 sent my docs
10/04/2024 docs delivered
17/04/2024 called postgrad loan just to know when I will receive my docs back as I’ll be travelling
18/04/2024 received an email from evidence team and this is what they said

You sent us evidence of
your immigration status from 19/01/2024 . To be eligible for student
finance you must prove you’ve been lawfully resident in the UK for 3 years
preceding the first day of your course.
What you need to do
We still need evidence of your immigration status from 08/04/2021 -
19/01/2024 You need to send us one of the following to confirm your status
during the above period:
an original Home Office letter confirming your status in the UK and the
reason for this status being granted. The letter must clearly show the date
on which you were granted your status, and the date on which this status
will expire (if applicable)
your original immigration status document
your original passport showing the relevant vignette
your original expired biometric residence permit card (if you have retained
it)

18/04/2024 (same minute) received a tracking of my originals docs being sent back

The docs I provide are:

- Valid Philippine Passport (original, as identity doc)
- Valid BRP (original, ILR Start Date: 19/01/2024)
- ILR Result (printed from email)
- Expired Philippine Passport (original, with UK Entry Clearance /vignette, Date of Entry: 19 Jul 2018)
- 1st Family Visa Result (original, valid from 08 Jul 2018 to 08 April 2021)
- 2nd Family Visa Result (print from email, valid until 29 Oct 2023)
- Expired BRP (photocopy, Valid from 08 Jul 2018 to 08 April 2021, original needed to be surrendered back to Home Office)
- Expired BRP (photocopy, valid from 29 Oct 2023 until 29 Oct 2023, original needed to be surrendered back to Home Office)

HOW ELSE WILL I PROVE MY IMMIGRATION STATUS FROM 08/04/2021 TO 19/01/2024? 😡

I’m in contact with your helpline, and they said they have referred my documents for review. The problem is, if they don’t accept the printouts and copies, I have nothing else to show. I pointed out that I have submitted my old passport with the vignette showing my entry into the UK on 17th July 2018. They reiterated that copies are not useful, but the emails from the Home Office stated that old BRPs should be posted back (to the Home Office). I feel like the case worker who handled my evidences didn’t do their due diligence.

Thank you - I appreciate you may have already tried this, but it may be worth asking the Home Office to provide you with a letter confirming your immigration status in this period.

Alternatively, once May begins we can request a Home Office check: this will get the information from the Home Office directly.

So, if you're unable to get any more evidence feel free to contact us in the beginning of May and we can request this.

Thanks, Graeme

I just got off the phone with the Home Office (the number I called is 03007906268, Option 2) and gave them the same details as mentioned above. They said that the Home Office doesn’t issue individual letters apart from the outcome letters they provided when I received my visas (which I have already provided your Evidence Team) and the photocopy of the expired BRP (aware that we surrender our old BRP card). Their advice is for SFE to contact Home Office directly for the information you require about my residency.

This is a snippet from my ILR outcome regarding the Home Office’s instruction to return our expired BRPs. I sent the outcome letter to the Evidence Team; however, they looked past it and are still asking for more evidence, as they do not accept a copy of my BRP.

Hi there. Yes, if you are unable to provide anything else we can request a home office check. You can call us to request this, but we are unable to send the check until the course has started, so it would delay the application. Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah! Did I understand correctly that the course must have already started for SFE to perform a direct check with the Home Office? Is this something that cannot be done in advance? The Home Office advisor mentioned that they can be contacted if I cannot produce any evidence. Despite the BRP being just a copy, the Home Office is surprised that you are not accepting my outcome letter. I’m worried to proceed with my master’s program without having any funding in place. Or, at least a confirmation that I am eligible.

Hi Elizabeth. Yes, we can still request for a Home Office check at the moment if you cannot provide any further evidence. As mentioned above, you will have to contact us and inform an adviser over the phone directly of your situation and that you physically have no further evidence you can provide before we can request this check. Thanks, David
