UCL BASc - Science & Engineering (Major)

I'm holding an unconditional offer to major in Science & Engineering and minor in Cultures. I'm most likely going to take it. Was just wondering if past students who had the same combo had any advice.

I want to combine Computer Science & Film/Art/Animation one day.

1) What are the exams like?
2) When are the exams?
3) What modules do you recommend taking?
4) What are the lectures like?
5) Hardest & easiest parts of the degree?
6) What's it like applying to internships?
7) What extra-curriculars/external courses/societies do you recommend joining?

Thanks in advance. I'm just scared of effing up in uni. I know it's inevitable but yk. Gotta lessen the chances as much as possible lmao.

UPDATE: I chose to go to this course, so here's a little rundown after first-year at BASc.

Key:
BASC0038: Algorithms, Logic and Structures
BASC0040: Logic, Computation and Language Theory
BASC0003: Quantitative Methods and Mathematical Thinking
MATH0012: Mathematical Methods for Arts and Sciences
ANTH0085: Documentary Film Making - Intermediate Practical Skills

Answers to my questions lol:
1 & 2) Exams are mostly in Term 3 (Summer), though you’ll have occasional tests and quizzes throughout the year. Coursework deadlines are scattered across all terms. Final exams usually take place at ExCeL London (an international exhibition and convention centre in the Custom House area of Newham, East London).

3) In first-year, I took BASC0038 and BASC0040 for Computer Science as a Science and Engineering major, and ANTH0085 for my Cultures minor module. ANTH0085 is actually a second-year module. I took it because the first-year module was full and I was really passionate about pursuing film alongside my stem subjects. You have to do MATH0012 as one of your major modules if your major is Science and Engineering.

4) Most lectures were super engaging (with the exception of two modules, but the content was still decent). I especially enjoyed BASC0003 and MATH0012. Great teaching styles. That said, I’ve heard the BASC0003 lecturer is changing from September 2025.

5) First-year hasn't been too demanding. Hardest part is managing your time and not being too relaxed but I think that goes for several things. It was difficult to get used to the new campus, but again that's more general. Turning up to every class gets a bit taxing but I prefer to do that. Easiest part - spending too much money on caffeine.

6) Haven't got there yet 🙂 I'll respond to this next year. But UCL does offer a lot of career workshops tailored to BASc students.

7) I can’t lie, I didn’t get too involved in societies or extracurriculars this year. Maybe next year.
