University of Surrey academics back no confidence vote as 'morale is very low'

A University of Surrey spokesperson said it was 'not immune to the financial pressures facing the UK's higher education sector'

Nearly 92 per cent of voters in a Surrey University College Union (UCU) survey supported holding a vote of no confidence in its vice chancellor, following proposed staff cuts.

Surrey UCU has been campaigning against ‘compulsory’ redundancies and financial severance elicited by the University of Surrey in an all-staff emergency meeting on March 6. Vice Chancellor Professor Max Lu (VC) announced it would have to cut staff and assets as part of cost-saving exercises.
