are my S5 higher choices good?

Hi there, I am currently about to move into S5, but am now having doubts about my subject choices as 4 of them are essay based and I am crashing higher modern studies, but many of my teachers have told me that it is not a good idea to crash a subject in S5 as it does not usually secure you with 5 highers as you may fail the crashed subject, however, my history teacher has told me I am perfectly capable of crashing another social subject with a good outcome. I am just wondering your opinions on my subjects, whether they are a good idea or not or maybe even some of your experiences with these subjects, they are: Modern studies, history, English, maths and Spanish. Thank you!

Higher modern is literal hell is there absolutely no other subjects u can take bcs my god higher modern and history alone is awful but the fact ur crashing it is ahhhh. Depending on if ur staying on till 6th but this would be ur last yr to get a Nat 5 in any subjects that would require u to do that in order to do a higher in it. Thats crazy tho that u can crash subjects in 5th. But would it not be better to have a sciency subject just incase?

I think you can do it! If you believe that you can handle the workload, then go for it. However, maybe take some time to consider if there are any better alternatives to Mods, I have a lot of friends who take and find it quite stressful as it is. If you are strong in your other essay based subject though, then there should be some transferable skills. What courses or jobs are you thinking of? (It’s always good to check subject requirements for anything you want to apply for). Hope this helps and good luck! x

Modern studies is so shite, I would only recommend it if the moddies department in your school are good

Thanks a lot! yeah, essay writing is my strongest skill and i also really enjoy the politics part of history so i think i will enjoy modern studies. i would love to study psychology or history when i leave school, i've had a look at subject requirements and my choices seem alright for both of those. thanks again!

If your taking Modern Studies bro good luck I found it so stressful this year, yesterday I sat the higher exam with only revising three essays that I predicted would come up and could you believe it they really did come up. Just to let you know in Higher Modern studies you're supposed to revise 15 essays.

Hi there. i don't think id be better doing a sciency subject as all of my science teachers have told me i am most likely failing lol😅 and no i don't think there are any other subjects i could take because i am terrible at art and music and have no interest in geography.

Hi there, luckily my school is blessed with great social subjects teachers. And my current history teacher is also a modern teacher so i'm hoping to have her for both next year!!

Also, the psychology course i am hoping to do at uni once i leave school doesn't require a science subject, just psychology which i can take in S6.

I crashed higher modern studies in s5 as well, when the last time I had studied in modern studies was in s2. Honestly, I think it is an easier higher to do than history because its more structured and some statistics overlap between multiple essays. also paper 2 for modern studies has no knowledge compared to history, so honestly i would say go for it. As long as you're consistent with it, I am sure you'll do great !

It’s harder now, less essay options in the exam and assignment as well
