History A Level Coursework NEA

Starting out my research for History Coursework but struggling to find ideas, was thinking Religious Crusades or Spanish Inquisition has anyone done anything similar and if so, how was the research and written project. Just need some ideas ?

In Year 13, I did mine on the Crusades, specifically to what extent was it a solely religious endeavour. I enjoyed it even though I had no prior knowledge on the topic, which may have made it more interesting to be fair, and found it fairly straightforward, other than it's slightly difficult to find lots of arguments that it wasn't a mainly religious endeavour. Johnathan Riley Smith is the GOAT of Crusading historians IMO.

I got 33/40 last week, haven't seen a breakdown of the marks though. I explored like financial and territorial motivations as well though, I think I had a balanced argument

I did my history coursework on the same question (“To what extent was religious devotion the main reason for Western Europeans to set out on crusade in the years 1095 1204?”) and achieved full marks for my coursework. I used the same historian (J. Riley Smith and Kostick). I found it best to pick historians with a good contrast, to make your argument balanced. Hence, I chose Riley Smith (who has a very traditional academic voice) and a Marxist historian. As my factors, I discussed religious devotion, wealth, and glory.
