Rejected from 4/5 unis, don’t want to attend the one I have an offer for

Hey, just found out yesterday that I’ve been rejected from the final uni I was waiting and hoping to get into. I only have an offer from Bolton but I don’t want to attend there. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should proceed with? I applied for Dental Technology due to my lower grades (for Dentistry itself). I’m doing Art, Biology and Chemistry A-levels so any course suggestions for those subjects in UCAS extra would be great. Just feeling really discouraged at the moment and I don’t know what to do… Do I decline my offer at Bolton and apply for something completely different (art related perhaps) or do I apply for something similar? Unfortunately, I have no clue what my teachers put down as my predicted grades back in December but I have improved them a lot since then. I’m planning on asking what they put them down as, are they also possible to update? I doubt it because it would be unfair to students who also improved their grades but it’s something I’m wondering about.

I'd suggest that you either decline Bolton now, or just hang onto it until August as your Firm.
Once you have your results and you know about Bolton yes or no, then make a decision about what you want to do next, how, and why. If that involves declining a place, taking a gap year and reapplying for a different course next year, thats okay - nowhere does it say you can only go to Uni this year, or that it has to be Bolton.
The first thing you need to find out your predicted grades. Taking Biology and Chemistry opens up loads of careers but you need to decide what is right for you. Things like Genetics, Pharmacy, Applied medical sciences are all open to you if your grades are good enough. If you are not certain it might be worth a gap year and applying with actual results. Below is a link to the Health and Medicine courses available at Swansea university to see if anything interests you.

You can enter your choices here and this will give you many more options. Medical fields are very competitive and meeting the grades doesnt always get you in which maybe why you have been rejected. It might be worth asking for feedback.

Was in the same position as you 2 years ago and also did not want to go to Bolton. Best advice is look at other healthcare professions if that is what you’re interested in- particularly allied health professions (what I did) over pharmacy/ optom as they aren’t oversaturated like pharm/ optom now are.

Hey! Thanks for the advise, I ended up applying for psychology with counselling with a foundation year - because I haven’t done psychology before and would be more comfortable. I was actually about to ask another question because I was wondering whether I can go into clinical psychology with that… or would I have to go into psychology with neuroscience? Thanks for the advice, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one that has felt like this towards Bolton - no offence to anyone who has gone Bolton or will, or does, but I haven’t heard anything about it from anyone and it’s not worth going away for… in my opinion anyway. Thanks again!

I’m not familiar with psychology so not too sure about that but best to speak to the uni about their course spec and diff modules they offer- you will most likely choose some optional modules so one of them could be similar to what you want to in the future. Best of luck!

If you are passionate for dentistry and your achieved grades this summer are competitive then id recommend re-applying in the next cycle.

No point going and studying a course for the sake of it, what I would do is focus on achieving the best A-level results possible with your time left. After exams you can take time to figure out plan A, B & C. And either using clearing or a new application to put yourself somewhere you want to go to.
