Funding after leaving midwifery degree previously

I had to withdraw from previous midwifery degree course and was given a dipHE in Health; would I be eligible for full funding if apply to start the midwifery degree from year 1?

Hi giggles79,

How many years of previous study did you have on the Midwifery course that you previously studied?

Thanks,
Calum

Hi Callum
I studied for 4 years but with interruptions due to illness and Covid
I received a dipHE in Health studies but not a degree in Midwifery due to not being able to complete placement
Thanks

Hi giggles79,

If you are looking to study Midwifery again we would have to take your previous study into account so this will likely mean that you are not eligible for a tuition fee loan for your course unless you can send us evidence of compelling Personal Reasons for previous years of study.

Thanks,
Calum

Can you check this please? It is my understanding midwifery is an exception course as long as the applicant isn't already registered in the field.

Hi giggles79,

Yes, Midwifery is an exception course but we do take previous study on other AHP courses into account for calculating your eligibility.

Thanks,
Calum

Thank you for your reply Callum
So am I right in understanding that if I had applied for another exception course such as nursing or radiography I would not be entitled to funding as I had already studied midwifery ( both courses being healthcare exception courses) ?

Hi giggles79,

No, maybe I have phrased this incorrectly. You would still be able to study Nursing or Radiography as long as you are not already registered in this field However, once you start an AHP course if you have any repeat years this can affect your eligibility for tuition fee funding. So as you have said you have 4 years previous study in Midwifery and are still looking to study it this will affect your eligibility for tuition fee funding.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi Callum
I am not registered in midwifery as I was only awarded a level 5 dipHE
I would be applying to begin the midwifery degree from the beginning of Year 1 and study for the 3 yrs of the whole degree
Sorry for the questions I just want to be sure of the information
Thanks

Hi giggles79,

I appreciate that you are not registered in Midwifery but as you already have 4 years of previous study on this course this will need to be taken into account when determining your eligibility for future tuition fee funding.

Thanks,
Calum

Hello Jason
I have had a lookIMG_8928.jpeg into this subject while I was waiting for a reply and I found this information… I am unsure whether I actually am eligible for funding in this instance

Hi giggles79,

As I mentioned previously you are eligible to apply for funding but previous study on a Midwifery course will have to be taken into account when assessing your eligibility for future tuition fee funding

Thanks,
Calum
