biomedical science degree without a placement year?

Hey guys!

I am currently in my first year of biomedical science and my uni doesn’t offer a placement year. However, we do have a work experience module in the second year and my course is IBMS accredited, but I wondered how to go about doing my portfolio to become a registered BMS when I don’t have the option for a placement year?

Any advice is appreciated!
hi, you don't necessarily need a placement year to the work experience. i'm not sure how many months you need to do it for but you can do things like a summer internship to gather the evidence for your portfolio.

hope it helps (:

You'd most likely need to work as an MLA at Band 2 in a lab where your manager supports you developing your portfolio alongside your day to day work.

good luck (: just make sure the labs are up to the IBMS standards, as you can't do it in any lab. not sure if that makes sense but yeah...

Find your local hospital lab and see if they offer bank work as an MLA. Firstly it pays and secondly when you've finished your degree you will be in a good position to apply for permanent roles.
