Royal Holloway or Queen Mary for creative writing ?

Hi all
My daughter (who is French) got offers from both Queen Mary and Royal Holloway in English and Creative writing. Would be interested to get your views on the quality and diversity of the courses (and possibility to take options in screenwriting for instance..) and global reputation of both unis and ranking in this subject as we read contradictory info in this respect (as French people we have limited knowledge of the UK uni system).
Also we understand RHUL has more of a campus life since it’s further anyway from London but as QMUL also has accommodation on campus we wanted to check about social life and whether people still stay on campus during the weekends etc…
Thanks a lot
Olivia

Hi Olivia,

It's great to hear your daughter is considering studying English and Creative Writing at Royal Holloway. You can find out more about our course and modules here: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/studying-here/undergraduate/english/english-and-creative-writing/.

We're ranked 4th in the UK for Creative Writing (Complete University Guide, 2024), and that creativity suffuses all we do: reading, writing, and teaching! We're ranked 2nd for graduate prospects in Creative Writing (Complete University Guide, 2024) and 4th for graduate prospects in English (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2024). Our scholars have international reputations as expert writers, critical thinkers and influencers in their fields.

Come along to one of our Open Days to find our more about what the Department of English at Royal Holloway can offer you! Find out more information on this page: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/student-life/visit-royal-holloway/open-days/.

Our vibrant social scene is one of the things that makes the student experience at Royal Holloway so special! There's almost always something going on at the campus whether it's drama in our contemporary Caryl Churchill Theatre, a pool tournament in the Students' Union, a meeting of the Harry Potter society or a non-alcoholic slumber party! All the attractions of one of the world's great capital cities are less than an hour's journey away the galleries, the museums, the shops, the bars and nightclubs. Chat to some of our students here to find out more: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/chat/

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

Best wishes,

Thanks for lot for your great info. My daughter sent an email to the English department with a few questions about the program and notably any optional module son screenwriting but has not received any answers. Is there a specific email address we could use?
Also it is not clear to us whether rooms in the Founders hall are all sharing bath or whether some are ensuit.
Thanks a lot in advance
Best,
Olivia
