Personal statement advice

Hi! I’m a year 12 student and starting to think about writing my personal statement in July, I hope to study criminology at uni and would love some super/extra curricular ideas that helped you secure a place at uni. I’m so grateful for any help!

Hello!

This is a very exciting time! I am currently doing Earth and Environmental Science but some general things I put on my personal statement were books I was reading on the subject, any MOOCs I had done, why my A Levels for the course I wanted to study and why I would enjoy the course. Also, if you are able to get any work experience you could talk about what you did and what you enjoyed from it. A personal statement is basically you telling the university why you would be good at the course and why you would enjoy it!

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any more questions!

Hi @Matildas22

It's great that you have started thinking about your personal statement nice and early! It can be really difficult to know where to start but I would always make sure you reflect on any extra curricular things that you take part in and how this will transfer to your course!

As I didn't study criminology, I will link our brilliant personal statement guide here! It's a great place to start if you don't quite know what you're doing!

Generally, I would see if there is anyone at college who can look over your personal statement for you and give you some advice on it! Make sure you also get someone to proof read it before submitting!

I hope this helps and let me know If you have any other questions!
