No, sorry. You need at least 2 years of doing further math prior to doing it at GCSE. The content is quite overwhelming and can't be taken in, in only 12 months. A grade 9 would take alot of work, probably about 2h a day. Sorry xx

you could if you're good at maths, my school only starts teaching it year 11, and most of us are working at grade 7 to 9,, however we have to learn all of it independently in our own time 🥲 you'd have to do a lot of work in your spare time, so if that's not your thing, i wouldn't recommend taking it

in my school we started it in year 11
it's definitely possible to get a 9 in that time but it's quite difficult, even if you're doing well in maths right now. although i had a really bad teacher and that might've been why i found it so difficult
make sure you fully understand the topics and do as much practice as you can

as a year 12 though, i've got to say that gcse further maths really helps with a-level maths, because you do a lot of the pure stuff like differentiation, binomial expansion etc. it made my life slightly easier even though i struggled with gcse further maths because i'd already seen the concepts before. so if you're good at maths then i'd say doing the extra gcse is definitely worth it

unless ur talking about the OCR FMSQ, this is quite a stretch

If you are talking about the AQA gcse fm, then 12 months is more than enough time. Its a free 7-9 grade since the content is very short (only 6 chapters) and a good chunk of it is literally just gcse maths. Self-studying it isn't as hard as it sounds. when i was year 11 i took it up around november and finished in january, plus you have years of past papers to practice from so yeah I'd definitely recommend it! All you need is the corbett maths website and you're sorted.
However if its the OCR FMSQ that you are talking about, that is wayyy harder as it essentially is most of as level maths so the content would take longer to cover.

We started further maths a few months before our GCSEs. I know plenty of people who got 9s. If you're good at maths and willing to put in the time it's doable.

i'd say this is overexaggerating a little, i started the further maths course at the start of year 11 and got a 7 overall on the mock, the content can be overwhelming at times but if you stage it correctly and link in your normal maths knowledge its really not that bad, saying that, a grade 9 in fm is rare and would be difficult to achieve

its entirely possible, it just depends on how much effort youre willing to put in, if you take the course, try and link in your normal maths knowledge in with it where you can, they are realy interlinked and if you think about it as one subject rather than two seperate ones a lot of the things you need to know will come a lot more naturally. if you want a lot of practice ask for your teacher to print you off the practice sheets available for teachers on the aqa webstie, theres about 40 in total and each paper covers a little segment of the further maths course, good luck!!!

definetley possible. im doing AQA fm this year (im yr 10 btw), and we only started learning it this year. it took our class about 5 monthes to learn the content and we're all aiming for 9s. if ur good at maths its honestly a free GCSE.

what are you on ?? no you dont need 2 years prior nor 2 hours a day
It just depends on their math ability - I started FM gcse 7 months before the exam (school was being weird) and I walked out with an 8

Yes, it is entirely possible depending on your current maths ability, if you're getting 8/9 then you can easily cover all the content in less then a week - tips are to just to practise paper questions after learning content (thats all there is too it)

to get a grade 9 in fm u just need to be good at maths. if ur aiming for a 9 in maths, itll be easy to get a 9 in fm - theres very little content. id recomend doing all the past papers once uve learnt all the content, then revise the topics you lost marks on, then redo all the past papers, and again go through mistakes until u get full marks on all of them. Then just use websites or exam question sheets to find the hardest questions (Q20/21 type questions) with lots of marks and practice them until the exam. Maths is all about practice, as long as uve learnt the content (which should take between 1 month - 3 months), all u gotta do is practice!!!

definitely enough time if you’re quite good at maths understanding and application. aqa further maths doesn’t require much application in my opinion just needing to know the concepts. save my exams and first class maths is quite good for revision. i learnt it all myself a day before my mock and got a 9 so if you put in effort it can definitely be achievable.

My school only starts FM AQA in year 11, so it's 100% possible. Although, I'd only do it if you're strong in maths as otherwise it'll take a lot more time than necessary from your other subjects.

I mean I crammed most of the content yesterday and this morning before the FM exam this afternoon and I don’t think it went terribly. So 12 months should be plenty of time.

yeah me and most of my class only started doing it at the start of year 11, and tbh i havent done that much it was like 30 minutes a week. I learnt most of it the last few days before the exam its not too hard if your expected a grade 7+ in normal maths.
