Tier 4 (Student) Visa not valid for a Summer Vacation Scheme
Hey guys,
I'm in the application process for a role at Deloitte for a Summer Vacation Scheme, but they have currently put my application in the holding pool as they say there are new governmental regulations. I tried to ask them what these new regulations were and why this would pause my application as I have the right to work unlimited hours during non-term time (Summer Internship), but they were super vague. Could anyone help me out with this, I understand needing sponsorship for a Graduate Scheme, but why would this impact my application for an internship?

Hi I'm in the same boat and they responded as below after I asked them
The programme that you applied to acts as a direct route to a permanent opportunity at Deloitte.
Based on what you had shared in your application form, we understand that if you were to join Deloitte on a permanent basis you would require visa sponsorship.
The UK government has announced changes to the rules around visa sponsorship. This may have implications for the sponsorship of the role you have applied for and offering a permanent opportunity in the future. Your application will remain in our holding talent pool until further notice.

Hi, they responded to me with the same message as well. It's so frustrating, I understand why they would do that from a firm standpoint, but I would rather just be rejected than given a maybe.

I've talked to some other people about it, and they've all said that the firm is going to put all international students (who need visa sponsorship) into the talent pool, and they're only going to interview those who already have a visa to work in the UK (don't need sponsorship) and if they still have a few spaces left over after they've exhausted them, then they are going to start interviewing the rest of us

I received an offer and am joining the firm soon as a vacation student as an international student, on a student visa who doesn't need sponsorship for working off term-time. The company emailed to an inquiry I made, saying that my "offer to join Deloitte will not be impacted at this time". So they still do take international students.

Hey that’s good to know and congratulations!! MayI know when you received your offer? And when did you undergo the AC/interview? I’m still waiting for my summer vacation application update x

Thank you! Interview was in late November, and offer in early December in 2023.

That's so good, congratulations! I'm not sure why some of us have been put in a holding pool however, I think it's very uncommon to receive neither an acceptance or rejection.

When I asked them the same, they said they could not commit to allowing me to continue due to my visa sponsorship needs for a potential future graduate scheme. I have the same circumstances as you and didn't need sponsorship for a vacation scheme during non-term time, but was still prevented from moving forward. I wonder why it varies so much, it's quite confusing.
