Police officer recruitment 2024 / Northumbria Police

I’m pretty much through my application process and the medical is approaching
Now I’m really worried about a stupid mistake I made at a festival 5 years ago where I got offered c*ke and took it as I was very stupidly drunk and I was going through a really tough time

I instantly regretted it, as I knew deep down I didn’t want to do it, and it sent me into about 6 months worth of panic attacks and health anxiety which obviously is now on my GP notes as I told them what kicked it all off. It was literally the biggest mistake of my life.

I’m obviously going to disclose this during my medical as I’m going to be 100% honest, but I’m just so worried that a stupid mistake will kiss my career away?

Obviously I’ll pass the drug test, I’m just worried if a one off time 5 years ago will affect me. Any advice please?

I did something stupid a long time ago. I was given the opportunity to explain my behaviour. I now have SC clearance so I’d say as long as you can explain your actions, then you’ll be ok.

Legal disclaimer: I’m not a police officer

As long as you’re honest about it I would say it would be fine!I can’t imagine it’ll come up in your medical either to be honest if it was 5 years ago!I’ve just completed my medical, the only thing I would be concerned about, were you prescribed any medication etc for the anxiety etc?I had a phone call after I sent my medical forms off and they asked about a propranolol prescription I was given for anxiety (2 years prior) they were really nice about it but did say that if you have any new related mental health concerns within the last 2 years they don’t clear your medical which I was quite surprised about!Have you done your vetting yet?

I’ll have to mention it as obviously it’s down on my medical record as to why I started having the panic attacks :frown:

But no, I wasn’t, they tried me with something 5 years ago for my anxiety but I hated it and stopped, and managed to be treated with CBT which has long long been stopped

I’m sure it’ll all be fine then😀
How far along in the process are you?
I’m waiting for my vetting to come back

Vetting was an online form, looking at finances, family, associates, children etc, previous if any convictions. Not sure how long it takes to come back tho

How long did your results from OAC take once completed? And then for the medical to be reviewed?
