Travelling to UWE Frenchay Campus

Hi, so I plan on commuting to campus, so I wanted to know if anyone knows what buses that I can directly take from either Bristol Parkway Train Station or Filton Abbey Woods Train Station?

Does anyone know which train station is closer? On the uni website it said that the Filton Abbey Woods Train Station is closer but it seems that Bristol parkway is closer.

If anyone could let me know.

Thanks.

Hi! To be honest you could always take the train to Filton AbbeyWoods and walk the remainder to the Frenchay Campus! I did this commute for a whole year and the walk is maybe 15 - 20 minutes, it is uphill though but honestly a lovely walk i would say, I'm not too sure that there is actually a bus from either of the train stations directly to uni but i advise downloading the FirstBus app to check this out or cityplanner (however you need to be in bristol to use this app accurately) hope this helps!

Hi! Thank you for letting me know!

How did you find the commute?

I checked online and it seems that Bristol Parkway St seems to have a direct but I am not sure. I was also looking into taking a bus from the city centre, but that seems to be a longer journey.

Also, would you walk back to the train station or take a bus etc?

No worries!

So in my first year I actually didn't get given any accomodation nearby and was relocated to Gloucester and had to take the train every day so this was my only option to take the train to filton abbeywood and walk! Depending on where you might be coming from the commute is honestly not terrible unless you are coming from Gloucester like i did haha then it does get very tiring especially if you have any 9ams and you have to leave before 7am to catch the train...

If you are coming from City Centre you can take the M1, M3 I believe and M4? buses straight to campus the bus ride will be about 30 ish minutes or longer if theres traffic honestly it sounds like a long journey but you get used to it very quickly!

If going to the train station I would walk to filton abbeywood as it's easier to walk to there than parkway, im not too sure on direct buses to parkway as i dont have much reason to travel there but again defo recommend looking up your journey on FirstBus! Our bus system just got updated with new routes so google may be a little outdated now! Best of luck

Hi, Thank you for the reply! I appreciate it!

I wanted to know if there are any buses that you can take from Filton Train station, that would take you to Frenchay campus (any direct buses)? For the year that you commuted, did you walk all the time to campus, or did you take public transport like the bus? I looked on google maps, and seems like the walk to campus from Filton station, is walking through dual carriageway ( I think but not to sure). This was the only route I could see. I know you mentioned above that it was uphill, but, I couldn't see anything like that on google maps.

Thanks for the help again!

No worries Im glad I can help!

From the filton train station its actually located in like a rural path alongside the Ministery of Defence (MOD) so theres no roads next to it so unfortunately the only option is to walk to Frenchay! Often though there are a few VOI scooters left around that people tend to use to get up the hill in the year that I commuted I tended to just walk from the train station to campus it was around 15-20 minutes walk definetly easier on the way down haha!

I believe that there is actually a shortcut that can take you there from what my friends have said but i only just learnt about this and i dont commute anymore so i havent tested this out! The route that I used to walk was towards abbeywood retail park, across the roundabout and a straight walk up a hill , from what my friends have said the shortcut takes them around 5 - 10 minutes to walk instead

I've tried to attach a picture of the route I actually took instead of the one that google map provides because google map provides you a map that a car would presumably take!

Ah it wont let me upload the picture but have a play on google street view, the entrance to the filton station is inaccesible by street view so you will have to start at a roundabout closeby to asda! you know you will be in the right spot if you see a man leaning against the white fence of the MOD!
